Our Volunteer Physicians Provide Free Virtual Second Opinions to Cancer Patients Thanks to our nimble volunteer physicians we were able to quickly adapt to the new “normal.” Cancer patients and their family/friends have options! A Review Panel with the volunteer doctors via Zoom video/phone conferencing, an email written review or for those that do not need a full Review Panel a cancer specialist will do a Telephone Assist.
Yemi’s Story: From Shell-Shocked to Informed Patient. I was incredibly fortunate and privileged enough to have had you give me a second opinion in January of this year. Since the opinion, I had a recurrence with metastasis to the lungs. One of the things that you had recommended and that a sarcoma specialist recommended, was Olaparib which I started in June 2020.
The results have been incredible and very hopeful. There is no new cancer and a significant reduction in the size of the tumors in my lungs.
While I was somewhat “out of it” for my meeting in January, I am so grateful. Reading the report, including the summary has helped me greatly in understanding my cancer, the treatment. From being shell-shocked from the diagnosis, I grew to be a more informed consumer and participant.
I may not be able to contribute financially to the organization, given I have been on disability the last year, but I would be happy to do anything to contribute, give back in some way and I welcome anything that I can do. Thank you.
